I’m going to let you in on a little secret — I am obsessed with New Year’s! It’s one of my favorite celebrations. When else is it acceptable to wear head-to-toe sequins and cover everything in glitter? I encourage both regularly, but the New Year feels like permission to go all out. Beyond the sparkle and decorations, I love what the New Year represents: a fresh start. It’s 365 brand-new days to fill however you choose. Aim high, reset your goals, and take a moment to reflect on the year behind you.

Every New Year’s celebration — whether a big party or a cozy night in with Netflix — needs confetti when the clock strikes midnight. These DIY confetti poppers are an excellent way to ring in the New Year. They’re fast, simple, and addictive to make: once you create one, you’ll want to make a dozen. They add a festive touch to any gathering and are great for kids and adults alike.

How to Make DIY Confetti Poppers
Materials
- Plastic push-up popper tubes
- Decorative wrapping paper (we used Sugar Paper LA)
- Scissors
- Confetti (paper or metallic)
Instructions
- Measure and cut: Measure the wrapping paper so it will slide inside the popper tube. Cut a strip slightly narrower than the tube’s inner circumference and long enough to roll inside.
- Insert the paper: Slide the paper strip into the popper tube and smooth it so it lines the interior. This gives the popper a finished look and helps keep confetti contained until release.
- Fill with confetti: Add confetti into the tube, leaving room at the top so the cap can be secured comfortably.
- Seal and decorate: Replace the cap. If you like, wrap a coordinating strip of paper around the outside or add a small sticker or ribbon to personalize each popper.
- Ready to use: When the clock strikes, pull up the inner plunger to launch confetti into the air. Always aim away from faces and open flames.
Tips for best results: use lightweight confetti for a big airborne burst, and mix shapes and colors for visual impact. Metallic confetti catches light beautifully in photos, while paper confetti is easier to clean up. If you’re making poppers for a child-friendly event, choose larger confetti pieces to reduce choking hazards and supervise during use.
DIY confetti poppers are quick to assemble, inexpensive, and a festive way to celebrate any milestone — not just New Year’s. Make a batch for parties, weddings, birthdays, or a spontaneous celebration at home. Enjoy the sparkle and the joy these little poppers bring to your moments of celebration.
