4-Week Meal Plan: Simple Weekly Menus for Balanced Eating

Can you believe it? We’re already closing out the first month of the year. Below is this week’s meal plan for January 24–28 — simple, family-friendly dinners to make your week easier.

Enjoy a free 5-day meal plan filled with delicious, home-cooked meals for you and your family. A weekly plan helps you save time, reduce stress, and ensures everyone gets a hot, satisfying dinner each night.

This week try making these banana applesauce muffins — they store well in the fridge for quick breakfasts or snacks throughout the week.

I’ve been sharing weekly 5-day meal plans with my email subscribers for years and occasionally post them here and on Instagram. I love hearing from readers who use these plans regularly — they make weeknight cooking so much easier.

If you’re new to these meal plans, each one usually includes five dinner recipes and one or two desserts. I aim for variety and flexibility so you can swap days or adjust portions. I also recommend reserving one night for leftovers or packing extra for lunch the next day.

📅 Food Holidays

This week includes a few fun food observances — great excuses to try new recipes or celebrate a family favorite:

  • January is National Slow Cooker Month — a perfect time to enjoy comforting, hands-off meals.
  • January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day, a good reason to enjoy peanut-forward recipes or snacks.
  • January 27 is National Chocolate Cake Day — celebrate with a simple chocolate lava cake or another favorite dessert.

🍊 In Season Now

January highlights citrus: oranges, lemons, limes, and mandarins are at their best. Root vegetables like beets, turnips, and celery root are also in season and great for hearty winter meals.

Meal Prep Tricks

  • Marinate beef shawarma ahead of time: prepare on Sunday, stir on Tuesday, and cook on Thursday for an easy weeknight dinner.
  • Moussaka can be fully assembled in advance and baked a day or two later.
  • Buy pre-chopped or pre-cored vegetables when you can — saving prep time is worth the convenience.
  • Feel free to swap days around to fit your schedule, and check previous meal plans for more ideas.

January 23

Vegan sun dried tomato paste in a white bowl with a fork.

Vegan sun-dried tomato pasta is rich and creamy thanks to a nutty cashew sauce — a satisfying meatless option for dinner.

January 24

A moussaka piece on a white square dish on a marble white table.

Moussaka is wonderful when made with a béchamel layer, but you can skip it for a lower-carb version. Serve with warm pita bread and tzatziki for a full Mediterranean-inspired meal.

January 25

A pyrex glass dish of zucchini with a serving spoon in it.

This ground beef zucchini casserole has been a family favorite and even converted picky eaters into zucchini lovers. Serve it over steamed basmati rice for a complete meal.

January 26

Beef shawarma is a crowd-pleaser and can be prepped in advance. Pair with fries or sweet potato fries and don’t forget a garlicky shawarma sauce for dipping.

January 27

Crockpot BBQ shredded chicken is an easy, flavorful dinner that’s perfect for sandwiches or served over rice or a salad.

Desserts

A big white plate with the Chocolate Biscuit Cake over and a slice is cut out and placed on a white plate on the side.

End the week with a no-bake chocolate biscuit cake — deceptively simple but impressive to serve for a Friday treat.
