Need a break from the same old cold lunch you pack for your kids? St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect opportunity to change things up. A shamrock- or green-themed cold lunch will brighten their day and add a little festive fun to the midday meal.
Your child will be excited to open their lunch and discover a variety of tasty, themed treats. Not only do these lunches look special, they’re genuinely delicious, too.
Simple tools like a cookie cutter can turn everyday ingredients into something magical. A plain slice of cheese or ham becomes a shamrock in seconds — and that small touch makes the whole lunch feel celebratory.
I’ve always liked the idea of store-bought “Lunchables,” but I don’t love the cost or the preservatives. Making a homemade version is easy, more wholesome, and lets you personalize it for the holiday.
For this lunch I used a shamrock cookie cutter to shape ham and cheddar jack cheese. I also cut shamrocks from Brownberry Sandwich Thins. Changing the bread can make lunch feel new again — my daughters love these sandwich thins, and sometimes a small swap is all it takes to make them excited about lunch.
To add texture and flavor, I included guacamole and organic spinach corn tortilla chips. The chips add a satisfying crunch, and finding organic, green snacks reinforces the theme while keeping things tasty.
Extra Tip: If you don’t have a shamrock cookie cutter, don’t worry. You can still create a festive lunch by focusing on green items. Cut jello, cheese, meat, and bread into squares, and slice green peppers for added color and crunch.
Your kids will notice the thought and care you put into making their lunch special — that effort counts more than perfection.
